Regensburg

ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES IN THE WORLD

The city of Regensburg, one of the most famous city in the whole of Bavaria, was added to the UNESCO World Cultural  Heritage list in 2006.

Regensburg, also called "Castra Regina". became a real salt-trade metropolis in the Middle Ages. Today, the first Bavarian capital attracts the visitors with its historical flair.

St. Peter's Cathedral, situated in the centre of the city, is the only gothic Bavarian cathedral and dominant feature for years. Its towers can be seen far beyond the city. To the most significant sightseeing belong Porta Praetoria, Stone Bridge (die Steinerne Brücke), die Salzwaage, dungeon and the Old Town Hall located next to the Cathedral.

Walk past the historical localities, medieval buildings and lovely decorated gardens and parks. Or how about a stroll through the winding streets in the historical part of the city? Explore the numerous boutiques or spend a "little break" in a small cafe.

Everyone who loves art or is interested in history can find here various churches & chapels or museums. Try a true expedition through the city's history and the young and old will be thrilled.

An absolute highlight is a hall of fame Walhalla built by the King Ludwig I, which was based on the model of Parthenon on the Acropolis. Inside the temple you can find over one hundred marble busts and commemorative plaques of the famous people, f.e. Barbarossa, Goethe, Schiller and king Ludwig himself.
